Health Insurance in Egypt: Reality, Challenges, and Proposed Solutions

Abstract

This study provides an analysis of the health insurance system in Egypt. It discusses the development of health insurance laws from inception to the present, and offers solutions to improve health care and achieve comprehensive coverage. The study reviews existing literature, analyses current data, and examines successful international experiences in health insurance reform. By standing on the important lessons learned from these experiences for application in Egypt, the study aims to understand challenges and identify opportunities to enhance the health system, while considering social justice and the need to improve health services for all citizens. The study's key findings include confirming the importance of reforms to strengthen health insurance and broaden the scope of health coverage. It emphasizes the need to enhance health care infrastructure and financing, improve service quality and coverage, bolster primary care, draw from successful international experiences, and utilize modern technology, such as telemedicine and electronic medical records. The study underscores the necessity of continuous and well-considered efforts to achieve the desired goals of improving health insurance and public health. It also highlights the significance of international cooperation to support infrastructure development and financing. Implementing these recommendations could significantly enhance the health insurance system in Egypt, ensuring the delivery of high-quality health services to all citizens.
