Abstract

The Suez Canal is one of the most important global sea-level water route and a significant pillar of the Egyptian economy. According to statistics of the Central Bank of Egypt, the canal's revenues in 2022 reached USD 6.9 billion compared to USD 5.73 billion in 2019. Therefore, the study aims to explore how the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict impacted the global supply chains through the Suez Canal. The research adopted a descriptive/analytical approach to analyze related research information and studies and a comparative approach to compare the state of the supply chains in the Suez Canal before and after the two crises from 2018 to 2023. The study concluded that the Suez Canal was not adversely affected by either the COVID-19 pandemic or the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Instead, these crises contributed to the continuity of supply chain operations, despite challenges and the rise in oil, gas, and insurance prices. Furthermore, the canal's revenues increased significantly between 2019 and 2022, emphasizing its importance and role in the continuation of global supply chain operations.
